Privacy Policy
GateCaster is a calm treasure hunt game and website created by Christos Georgiou. This policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your choices regarding that data.
1. Information collected on the website
The website (gatecaster.cgeosoft.com) uses privacy-focused product analytics through PostHog European Cloud (eu.i.posthog.com) to understand how the site is used and improve visitor experience.
Analytics and cookies are loaded only if you explicitly choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline or ignore the banner, no analytics scripts or cookies are loaded.
When accepted, analytics may record:
- Pages visited and time spent.
- Browser type, screen size, and approximate location (country/region).
- Interactions such as stage run progress or downloading the game client.
2. Information collected in the game
When playing GateCaster connected to the online game service:
- Tester authentication: Your access key is kept on the game server with its SHA-256 hash, which the server checks when you sign in. Only the operator sees it, on a page reached from the operator's local network.
- Game telemetry: The server records session events (session start, session duration, world joined, portal spell cast, and portal crossed) tagged with your tester handle. This is used solely to balance worlds, diagnose bugs, and improve the game. You can turn it off at any time in the game's settings (Privacy, Send play data); the server then records no more events for your session.
- Device details: The client reports its operating system, platform, and build number to ensure compatibility. They go to the analytics only while game telemetry is on.
3. Requests for a tester key
When you ask for a tester key on the join page, the game server keeps your name and email address so the operator can approve your request and email you your key. The request is also recorded in PostHog European Cloud with your name and email, so the operator is notified of it. Emails are sent through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France). Your email address is used only for your key and news about the test, never sold or shared with advertisers, and deleted on request.
4. Data storage and security
Analytics data is hosted on European servers compliant with GDPR regulations. Game service data is maintained on secured servers operated by cgeosoft. No personal information is sold, rented, or shared with third-party advertisers.
5. Your rights
Under GDPR and applicable privacy laws, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data associated with your tester account. You may also withdraw cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser storage.
